Hi!

Welcome to my blog. This first post is a long time coming, and I’m excited to finally get to write it. The past few months have been filled with long hot summer days spent out in the gardens weeding, watering, and fertilizing, and so I am proud to, now, say that, after all that hard work, we have some pretty flowers to place in our little farm market.

We have zinnias, cosmos, cornflowers, baby’s breath, morning glory, marigolds, and daisies to name a few, and, then, of course, there are our dahlias which have just started to bloom.

This is our first year growing dahlias, and, well, I must admit I have fallen in love with them, literally. The fact that such vibrant elegance can arise from a few simple tubers in such a short time utterly amazes me. Now, of course, due to their delicate nature, dahlias do require a lot of care and attention, but? With good soil, compost, ample water, and loving eyes? Dahlias do well, and the work is well worth it! You can see the results.

I’ll be writing several posts in the next few weeks regarding our dahlias. Whether you buy them from us or someone else locally, or you are one of my readers from out of state, I ultimately want to turn you on to loving dahlias! Gazing at them can provide a momentary beautiful distraction from whatever problems you may be facing and that much needed brief respite might be just the thing you need in order to feel a little more energized.

I’m so excited. There will be many posts coming this season; I’ve just got so much to say when it comes to cut flowers, but, now, I’ve got to go back to the fields. We have 2,000 sunflowers that are being invaded by sinister demons otherwise known as Johnsongrass and so I need to go back outside with my trusty pair of clippers and attack those mischievous verdant villians in an effort to protect my future bundles of sunlit joy. Before I go, though, I would be most appreciative if you would kindly consider sharing this site with your family and friends, anyone who loves flowers and appreciates nature. The more flower lovers, the better. Until my next post, though, I will leave you with a few pictures my son, Mathew, took this morning of our dahlias. Until next time, peace. SB
